Alberta Gagné - "C'était une bergere"
"C'était une bergere" is a French language folk song that tells the story of an ill-fated encounter between a shepherdess and kitten. Brought to Vermont by immigrants from Quebec, this version was performed by Alberta Gagné of Highgate, VT and recorded by Vermont Franco-American performer and cultural advocate, Martha Pellerin in 1995 as a part of a field research project supported by VFC. The complete collection of Pellerin's recordings with Alberta Gagné is available as a part of VFC's online Digital Collections: The Martha Pellerin Collection of Franco-American Song.
