The 2024 Young Tradition Festival:
The 2024 Young Tradition Festival took place May 10-12 in Burlington. The festival included concerts from the world-renowned Nepali Sarangi player Shyam Nepali’s band Himalayan Dreams performed Friday night, and the well-known Quebecois trad band Genticorum played Saturday night, with an opening act by the 20 teen performers of the Young Tradition Touring Group. Young musicians and dancers performed alongside their teachers Saturday morning at the Burlington Farmers Market during our Student/Mentor Showcase. On Sunday all-ages had an opportunity to join in the fun at a family-friendly jam session and contra dance at Contois Auditorium. The festival's programming also included free performances for students at Burlington’s Integrated Arts Academy and residents at the Converse Home.
In this 90-minute workshop, the Flyers will introduce a favorite New England classic (Green Mountain Petronella, for the great state of Vermont!), teaching both chords and melody. After a short break, the second half of class will focus on how we arrange for the concert stage. With a combination of demonstrating, discussion, and full-group playing, we'll use Green Mountain Petronella to make some magic happen.
