Stories from Vermont Folklife’s Archive - A Listening Party

  • Bell Tower Room at Burr and Burton Academy 57 Seminary Avenue Manchester, VT, 05254 (map)

Listening Parties invite you, your friends and neighbors to come together and listen deeply to the sounds of everyday life in Vermont–voices, music and the world around us–drawn from the archive and research of Vermont Folklife and partnering organizations. This unique event offers an opportunity to explore our community, history, and environment through sound.

Join Vermont Folklife, the Manchester Historical Society, and the Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning as we hear about maple sugaring with horses, a fiddle tune at a Franco-American music jam, the strains of a Burmese lullaby, or the many generations of shopkeepers at the H.N. Williams store in Dorset.

If you’d like to learn about picking up the microphone and recording your own interviews in your community, check out our workshop “Oral History: An Introduction” on Wednesday, May 29, 9:30am - 12:30pm.
