Exhibit Reception: The Making of a Community-Centered Exhibit

  • 118 Elliot 118 Elliot Street Brattleboro, VT (map)

Join us for a special evening with Chris Urban, a former Vermont Migrant Education Program tutor who organized the 2008 VFC exhibit The Golden Cage, which presents portraits and narratives from fifteen Addison County dairy farmers and migrant Mexican workers. Explore images from the Golden Cage, which will be on display as part of the larger exhibit, The Most Costly Journey: Latin American Migrant Farmworkers in Vermont, and then enjoy a conversation with Urban. He will reflect on the exhibit’s genesis and development, personal insights and lessons learned from the people he interviewed, and how to think about the exhibit in the present-day, followed by a Q&A session.

Chris Urban will also be a guest instructor along with VFC staff at the 2-day workshop “Documenting Everyday Life” (July 6-7, pre-registration required), which will explore approaches to collaborative documentary work.
