Peoples Academy: Stories on the Road to Proficiency
“Stories on the Road to Proficiency” is a compilation of films stemming from our Vermont School Transformation research and storytelling project - meant to help spark dialogue and further understanding about the implementation of proficiency-based learning.
Through ethnographic inquiry and documentary film-making we explore this systemic school change work, including the challenges and the rightful moments of celebration.
Students and teachers from BFA St. Albans, Champlain Valley Union High School, Harwood Union High School and Peoples Academy contributed to this resource. Teachers from the social studies, math, science and English content areas offer their experiences. Student testimony spans a broad, heterogeneous mix of individuals, including a class valedictorian.
The films, produced in partnership with UP for Learning, and with the support of the Bay and Paul Foundations, are designed as a catalyst for dialogue among students, teachers and community members as we work to understand the purpose of proficiency-based learning and the promising practices which are emerging to guide this change process.
